March 28, 1919 -- March 22, 2016
Vernon Riegsecker, 96, of Goshen, formerly of Middlebury passed away
peacefully surrounded by family at 7:45 pm, on Tuesday, March 22, at Maples
at Waterford Crossing, Goshen. He was born on March 28, 1919, in Elkhart
County, to Joe and Katie Ann (Kauffman) Riegsecker. On December 9, 1943
in Elkhart County he married Ida Troyer; she passed June 21, 2013. Surviving
are two daughters, Jan (Joe) Yoder of Middlebury, Vert (Dennis) Miller of
Goshen; five sons, Gene (Judy) Riegsecker of Goshen, Glen (Jeanne)
Riegsecker of Goshen, Gary (Carolyn) Riegsecker of Goshen, Dale (Shirley)
Riegsecker of Middlebury, Jim (Marilyn) Riegsecker of Millersburg; 17
grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; three sisters, Lucy Bontrager of
Goshen, Mary Riegsecker of Middlebury, Gladys (Lester) Miller of
Shipshewana; brother, Glenn (Esther) Riegsecker of Middlebury. He was
preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, Ella Troyer, brother, Harold
Riegsecker and a granddaughter, Shelly and her husband Douglas Watts.
Vernon was a member of Mt. Joy Mennonite Church, a farmer for 40 years
and had worked for Jayco after retirement. He loved farming and often told
many stories of it, even up until his final days. Vernon had served in the
C.P.S. (Civilian Public Service) in Downey Idaho during WWII. He and his wife
volunteered with MDS after hurricane Hugo. He was a loving father, his
children loved him dearly and have many great memories of him. Visitation
will be from 1:00 -8:00 pm on Friday March 25, at Miller-Stewart Funeral
Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. There will also be one hour of
visitation prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Saturday March 26, at First
Mennonite Church, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastors Ben
Shirk and Randall Riegsecker. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorials may be given to M.D.S. (Mennonite Disaster Service).

Verlin and I always enjoyed visiting with your parents and then visiting with
Vernon at the Maples. A lot of Good Memories. Sorry for your loss!!
