Sue Garten
                      November 20, 1948 -- March 27, 2013

Sue Garten, 64, of Shipshewana, died at 12:59 am on
Wednesday, March 27, at Kindred Hospital, Mishawaka. She had
been in declining health the past seven weeks. She was born on
November 20, 1948 in Charleston, WV, to James Wilmer and
Lucille Christine (Silcox) Cavender.  On November 27, 1965 in
Cleveland, OH she married John Garten, he survives. Survivors
in addition to her husband are three sons, John (Stacey) Garten,
II of Middlebury, Richard Dean (Renee) Garten of Sturgis, MI,
Jeffery Scott Garten of Shipshewana; 13 grandchildren, 15 great
grandchildren; four sisters, Patty (Jr.) Truex of Elkhart, Marie
(Mike) Huddleston of Shipshewana, Evelyn Merritt and Joe Ann
(Robert) Wade both of Middlebury; a brother, James Cavender of
Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was
a grade A welder at Syndicate Systems for many years and most
recently a homemaker. Sue loved to play guitar and sing
especially at her home church First Freedom Baptist Church in
LaGrange. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00--8:00
pm Friday, March 29, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South
Main Street Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
Saturday March 30 also at the funeral home. Services will be
conducted by Pastor’s Wade Sturdivant and David Watson.
Burial will be in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.

This is for my loving mother~in~law. You know that you were
always more of a mother in the 24 yrs to me then I’ve ever had
and I Thank You and Love You so very much for everything you
showed me and taught me. And most of all for allowing me to be
a part of your family..to share in all the Love you had to give and
all the things you had to show me also for helping me grow up
and become the woman that I am today..I Love You With All My
Heart You Will Be Missed Dearly..RIP Our Dear Mother...

Been a long time since I’ve seen you all. Sue will always be in my
heart as such a wonderful and loving woman. She always tried to
make sure us kids were not being bad. My prayers are with Big
John and the whole family. Miss you all

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss.  I know Sue was a great
woman and she will be sadly missed by her family. I have heard
many stories from Marie about her wonderful sister who she
loved so much.  I love you Mike and Marie!
