Sherman P. “Pat” Laffoon

Sherman P. “Pat” Laffoon, 76, died on at his residence after fighting a
yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born at home on Jan. 31,
1940, in Fair Oaks, IN, to Edward and Eddie (Kielmeier) Laffoon. On January
31, 1960 in Mt. Ayr he married Janice Hansen. He is survived by his wife,
Janice Laffoon of Bristol; his daughters, Angela McCraner of Middlebury,
Laura (Earl) Goheen of Bristol; 4 grandchildren, Matthew McCraner of
Goshen, Alaina McCraner of Middlebury, Kyle Goheen of Carmel, Kevin
Goheen of Bristol; and one brother Wayne (Vivian) Laffoon of Bristol. Along
with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robin W. Laffoon;
brothers Chuck, Ray, Lloyd, Calvin, Mike, and Gene Laffoon; and sisters
Leona Kilmer, Lucille Winslow, and Kate George.
Pat graduated from Mt. Ayr High School in 1958 where he was a star
basketball player. A carpenter by trade, Pat was employed as a Plant
Manager for Shadow Cruiser RV, Bristol, IN when he retired in 2005.
An avid outdoorsman, Pat enjoyed hunting a wide variety of game. He also
liked taking his boat out on the river or lake to fish. In his later years, Pat
took great pleasure in hanging out on his property, cutting firewood and
taking long walks with his dog Jake. A horseshoe pitching enthusiast, Pat
was a 4-time Elkhart County 4-H Fair Class A Champion (2004, 2005, 2011,
2013). He was also a member of the Indiana Horseshoe Pitching
Association and participated in the World Horseshoe Tournament 2003 Eau
Claire, WI. Pat participated in the Middlebury, Stroh, and Michiana
Horseshoe Pitching Leagues. In addition, he ran the Middlebury Horseshoe
League from 2007 – 2014. In 2006 he was voted the winner of the first ever
Pitcher of the Year Award from the Indiana Horse Pitchers Association.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 10, and one hour
prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service on Thursday at Miller-Stewart Funeral
Home, Middlebury. Services will be led by Russell Baker, a family friend.
Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Bristol, IN. Memorial contributions
may be directed to the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, IN.

Our deepest sympathy to Janice and the whole family. We always enjoyed
coming over to Middlebury to pitch in tournaments. We always felt
welcomed by the Laffoons. Rest in Peace Pat

I remember laughter and stories from all of the Laffoons. I am sure Pat will
live on in your stories. It has been a few years but you all still play
important roles in my growing up memories. Greetings and condolences
