Sarah Bowen, 76, of Shipshewana, died at 3:58 am on Tuesday, June 12, at Elkhart
General Hospital, her death was unexpected. She was born on June 22, 1941 in
Middlebury to Eli and Mary (Chupp) Schmucker. Survivors include three sons, Jerry
(Jeri) Mehrley and Roy Bowen all of Shipshewana, James (Essie) Bowen of East Lynn,
WV; daughter, Tammy Bowen of Shipshewana; six grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence (Mary) Schmucker of Middlebury; three sisters,
Susanna Miller of Shipshewana, Katie Wright of Bristol, Martha (Walter) Hochstedler of
Middlebury. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Adam Steglich;
and a brother, Ray Schmucker. Sarah had worked for Syndicate Systems of
Middlebury for over 20 years retiring in 1996 as a robot operator. She enjoyed
crocheting, quilting and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She loved spending time with
her family, especially her grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 -
8:00 pm Friday, June 15, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street
Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 16, also at the
funeral home. Services will be conducted by Pastor Mitch Mast. Burial will be in Grace
Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.

So glad I got to see her just two short weeks ago. As a child she was like a
grandmother and we all loved her very much! So sad for your loss.

I loved this lady we had good times back in the day. Haven't seen her much in the later
years but I still loved her. Sorry to her children for their loss. Prayers are with her family.
