Robert R. Baker
Robert R. Baker died August 3, 2018 in Dallas, TX after a brief
illness at the age of 76.
Robert was born on March 18, 1942 in Elkhart, IN to Harley L. Baker
and Florence (Holdread) Baker. He attended Elkhart High School
before joining the U.S. Army in 1959. He married A. Victoria
Anderson in 1964. The couple had three children.
Robert is survived by his wife; children, Robert G. Baker of Elkhart
and Rebecca (Thomas) Naulty of McKinney, TX; siblings, Susan
Brock of Halstead, KS, Linda (James) Meador of Santaquin, UT,
Margaret Remaly of Mesquite, NV, Michael (Tammy) Baker of
Elkhart; and grandchildren, Brook Naulty and Dylan Naulty. He is
preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Benny Baker and
Joanne Ward; and his son, Harley J. Baker.
Robert was best known as a Police Officer in Northern Indiana. He
began his career in law enforcement in 1974 when he joined the
Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. He joined the Middlebury
Police Department in 1982 and was appointed Town Marshal in
1988. In 2000, Robert and Vicki moved to Dallas, Texas where he
worked for a time in Sales before retiring in 2008. He was a
dedicated individual who loved his family and his community and
who was passionate about children, especially his grandchildren
Brook and Dylan.
A visitation is scheduled for 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, September
2nd, with a funeral beginning at 3:00 at Miller Stewart Funeral Home
in Middlebury, IN. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Robert’s
life. The family would like to thank the Dallas VA Hospital’s Hospice
Unit for their care and dedication.
