Robert E. Yoder

Robert E. Yoder, 83, of Shipshewana, died peacefully in his sleep at 3:58 am
on Friday, October 14, at The Maples in Goshen, IN, after a short hospital
stay. He was born at home in Emma, IN, to Harley D. and Letha (Pletcher)
Yoder on November 9, 1932. On May 31, 1953, he married Lois Marie Yoder, at
Forks Mennonite Church, and together they had four sons who farmed with
him at 7740 W SR 120, Shipshewana. Lois preceded him in death on August
17, 2000. On July 19, 2003, he married Catherine Hochstedler of Kokomo.
Together, Robert and Lois had four sons and daughter-in-law’s of whom all
survive him: Randy and Judy (Yoder), Roger and Jolene (Havens), Ron and
Brenda (Lazzaro), and Rob and Juanita (Christner), all of Shipshewana;
twelve grandchildren and spouses: Eric and Melissa Yoder, Wendy and Kurt
Stump, Ryan Yoder; Derek and Amy Yoder, Jared and Jessica Yoder, Justin
Yoder; Kaylee Yoder, Brett Yoder, Andrew Yoder, Kent Yoder; Brooke Yoder
and Bradi Yoder; 10 great grandchildren; Brendan Yoder, Bailey Yoder,
Austin Hedges; Carver Stump, Faith Stump; Pierce Yoder, Miles Yoder,
Royce Yoder; Grady Yoder and Reese Yoder, of whom all survive him.
Also surviving him are three step-children and their spouses; Jarvis (Ruby)
Hochstedler, Cynthia (Mike) Tarrh, and Rochelle (Greg) Tryling ; 7 step-
grandchildren, and 12 step-greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by a
sister, Phyllis (Yoder) Weaver, Goshen. A brother, Dean Yoder, Elkhart,
preceded him in death.
Robert Yoder was a lifelong dairy and grain farmer and member of the Emma
Mennonite Church. When in high school, he won several awards for dairy
judging, and his farm, Robert E. Yoder & Sons, also won several awards for
dairy production over the years. He and his wife, Lois, served two years in
1W service at South Bend Memorial Hospital during the Korean conflict, were
youth sponsors, and Robert served for almost two decades as a church
elder. One of his greatest joys was attending his children and grandchildren’s
events.  Visitation will be from 1-8, on Sunday, October 16, at the Emma
Mennonite Church, and the funeral service at 10:00 am on Monday also at the
Emma Mennonite Church, by pastors Gene Hartman and Jarvis Hochstedler,
with burial at Shore Mennonite Cemetery by Miller-Stewart Funeral Home.

So sorry for your loss!  I just found out that Bob had passed - We were out of
town with Velda.  Great memories growing up down the road from your
