Ray Bontrager, 81, of Goshen, formerly of Middlebury, died at 11:53
pm on Tuesday, April 24, at Courtyard of Goshen. He had been in
declining health the past week. He was born on April 15, 1937 in
Clinton Township, to Simon and Elizabeth (Miller) Bontrager. On
November 25, 1956 in Middlebury, he married Ellen Thomas, she
survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are daughter, Deb (Wilmer)
Beachy of Wolcottville; son, Darwin Bontrager of Chicago;
granddaughter, Brocia (David) Mueller; grandson, Tarrin Beachy; two
sisters, Ruby (Ellis) Bontrager of Bristol, Nancy (Maynard) Mast of
Glendale, AZ; five brothers, Lester (Lucy) Bontrager of Middlebury,
Gerald (Letha) Bontrager of Goshen, Lowell "Squeaky" (Verda)
Bontrager of Millersburg, Leon Bontrager of Goshen, Loren (Barb)
Bontrager of Nappanee. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ray was an avid softball player and loved riding his motorcycle in his
free time. He was self-employed as a truck driver for Clinton Center
Feed Mill. He was a member at Forks Mennonite Church where he
served as an usher for many years. He loved to travel including taking
a trip to Africa and later a trip to Spain with his son. Visitation will be
from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, April 27 at Miller-
Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Family
and friends will meet at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 28 for a graveside
service at Miller Cemetery, Goshen followed by a memorial service at
11:00 am at Middlebury Church of the Nazarene. Memorials may be
given to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (children’s home in Chicago
where Darwin has volunteered) and Crosslinks Missions
(organization that Deb and her family have volunteered).
