Orva S. Bontrager, 72, of Shipshewana, died at 10:34 am on Wednesday,
December 16 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital after being brought into the ER
after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was born on July 13, 1943 in
LaGrange County to Samuel R. and Susan (Miller) Bontrager. On March 21,
1963 in LaGrange County he married Wilma J. Frey, she survives. Survivors in
addition to his wife are seven daughters, Edna Fern (Freeman) Eash of
Millersburg, Sue Ella Bontrager, LeEtta Miller both of Shipshewana, Irene
(Leland) Lehman of Topeka, Arlene (David W.) Miller, Marie (Jose) Schlabach
both of Shipshewana, Treva (Daniel) Miller of Topeka; four sons, Freeman
(Sue Ellen) Bontrager of Topeka, Wilbur Lee (Mary Jane) Bontrager of Goshen,
Kenneth (Leona) Bontrager of Burr Oak, MI, Orva, Jr. (Jane) Bontrager of
Shipshewana; 51 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin
(Ida Mae) Bontrager of Shipshewana, Samuel, Jr. (Fannie Mae) Bontrager of
Wolcottville; step-mother, Miriam Bontrager of Wolcottville; five step-sisters;
three step-brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Vernon
Bontrager; three grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Bontrager; son-in-law,
Duane Miller. Orva was a farmer and member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm Thursday, December 17 and all day Friday,
December 18 at the family’s residence, 0675 South 900 West Shipshewana.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 19 at the Laverne
Bontrager residence, 0700 South State Road 5 Shipshewana. Services will be
conducted by Bishop Monroe Yoder and the home ministers. Burial will be in
Yoder Cemetery, Shipshewana
