Neal Myers
                                    June 10, 1963 -- February 21, 2019

Neal Myers, 55, of Middlebury, passed away while doing what he loved on
Thursday evening, February 21. His passing occurred at the scene of a single
airplane crash landing near County Road 42 and County Road 33 in Goshen. He
was born on June 10, 1963 in Goshen to Dr. Richard and Shirley (Hassell) Myers.
On July 25, 1987 in Noblesville he married Dianne Roxbury, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Nick Myers of Middlebury and a
daughter, Jenna (Brent) Eaton of Jacksonville, FL; his parents of Goshen; two
sisters, Pat Lau of Indianapolis and Kay (Dr. Doug) Stanley of Goshen. Neal was a
pillar of the Middlebury Community; he was the owner/operator of Max Myers
Motors, Middlebury for the past 26 years. He was a 1985 graduate of Purdue
University, and was very active in attending many school events with his family,
who are all Purdue alumni. He lived an active lifestyle and spent a lot of time with
his family snow skiing, golfing, and riding bicycle. He and his wife were part of
the "Wild Pigs" bicycle group and were both very instrumental in the
development of the Boys and Girls Club, Middlebury. He served on the steering
committee in 2001 that officially opened the Middlebury club in 2002. He then
served on the Blue Ribbon Committee in 2005 for the building project of their
current facility, which was built on the Northridge School System complex in
2006. He served on the First State Bank Board of Directors since 2002. His true
passion was flying; he and his wife often volunteered their time and skills in
transporting both children and adults with illnesses to hospitals and other events
as part of their volunteer service for Angel Flight Central. He earned an “Angel”
designation during the Goshen News’ annual “Angels Among Us” awards
ceremony in 2015. He and his wife also enjoyed volunteering for Pilots N Paws
Pet Rescue Services, flying dogs to multiple shelters around the country.
Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 27, and 2:00
- 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 28, at Waypoint Community
Church, 56893 County Road 29, Goshen. A Celebration of Life Service will be
held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 1, also at the church. Services will be
conducted by Pastor Blair Carlstrom. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the Boys and Girls Club, Middlebury or to Pilots N Paws Pet
Rescue Services. Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury is in charge of

I was saddened to read of the accident and death of my parents "Neal". They
bought a car from Myers Motors;time to buy a new car my mother said "We'll go
see Neal" That doesn't sound like much but in our family it was A LOT. My
parents had a dog that refused to ride in the back seat. So, a new car had to have
a bench seat. While my Dad tried to deal with mother and the fact that cars no
longer had bench seats, Neal quietly found a bench seat. Fortunately, a good
used car came wit h it. After that my Dad always suggested Neal when friends
were looking for a new car, Mother TOLD them. They bought 2 more cars from
Neal before they passed away. It wasn't until I read Neal's obituary that I got a
"punch in the gut". This was my "little Neal",Many years ago Neal was in my
kindergarten Sunday school class. "Little Neal" was special and my favorite.
Even as a small child he was a kind, gentle joy. That he was special came as no
surprise; his parents Richard and Shirley were just as special. The other teachers
and I often commented it was too bad all of the kids didn't have parents like the
Myers. My heart hurts for Neal and his family.

Neal was a trusted friend in the automotive industry. Many memorable
conversations about the business that was good to both of us but easily capable
of driving us crazy. I'll miss your flying stories I so looked forward to going up
with you. God speed my friend.

A beautiful Poem I found and wanted to share. Flight is freedom in its purest form,
To dance with the clouds which follow a storm; To roll and glide, to wheel and
spin, To feel the joy that swells within; To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,
And know the warmth of a clear spring sky; Then back to earth at the end of a
day, Released from the tensions which melted away. Should my end come while I
am in flight, Whether brightest day or darkest night; Spare me your pity and
shrug off the pain, Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again; For each of us is
created to die, And within me I know, I was born to fly.

So sorry for your loss, Neil was a great guy. As a pilot myself I looked up to Neil
and was told about all the great things he had done. Even though I hadn't seen or
talked to Neil in quite some time I can still hear his laugh. My brother Marc Miller
was always telling me what a great joy it was to fly with Neil. I am sure he has
move on to a better place and reaping the rewards of his wonderful life.
