January 28, 1922 -- June 26, 2018

Monroe “Rollie” Barkman, 96, of Topeka, died at 2:17 am, on Tuesday, June 26,
2018 at his residence. He was born on January 28, 1922, in Mark Center, OH, to
Samuel P. and Magdalena (Plank-Coblentz) Barkman. On November 28, 1944 in
Hicksville, OH he married Magdalena "Lena" Wagler, she died January 14, 2013.
Surviving are five daughters, Mary Jane (Wilbur) Miller of Middlebury,
Magdalena Ann (Toby) Troyer, Waneta (John) Miller, Carolyn Marie (Dave)
Nissley, Norma Jean (Freeman "Fritz") Bontrager all of Topeka; two sons,
William Henry Barkman of Topeka, Monroe (Rachel) Barkman Jr. of Ligonier;
daughter-in-law, Rose Barkman of Wolcottville; 34 grandchildren, 56 great
grandchildren; sister, Mary Kathryn (Lee) Miller of Nappanee; brother, Mel
(Joanna) Barkman of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents;
two daughters, Alma Mae Barkman and Martha Schmucker; three sons, Samuel
Jay, John Allen, and Ray Ellis Barkman; two grandsons; two great grandsons;
three sisters, Edna Miller, Alta Mullet, and Emma Yoder; four brothers, Pete,
Enos, Sam, and Henry Barkman. He was a farmer and a member of the Old
Order Amish Church. Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 27
and all day Thursday, June 28 at the Freeman Bontrager residence, 3365 W. 550
South, Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Friday, June 29 also at the
Freeman Bontrager residence. Services will be conducted by Monroe's
nephews, Sam Barkman, Amos Yoder, and Levi Barkman and the home
ministers. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.
