Melvin L. Chupp
January 30, 1931 -- September 30, 2014
Melvin L. Chupp, 83, of Toledo, OH, formerly of Goshen died at 12:26 am,
Tuesday, September 30, at Promedica Hospital, Toledo OH. He was born on
January 30, 1931 in Goshen to Festus and Katie (Hostetler) Chupp. He
married Edna Sturgeon on December 4, 1971, she has passed away August
31, 2012. Surviving are two daughters, Marlene (Del) Slaubaugh of New Paris,
Carol (Tim) Finchum of Goshen; two sons, Mervin (Kelly) Chupp of Crete, IL,
Delbert Chupp of Beecher, IL; step-son, Ted Jones of Clifton Forge, VA; four
grandchildren, four great-grandsons, four step grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Gloria Kohli, step-daughter,
Belinda Jones; brother, Sylvester Chupp, two sisters, Mable Thomas and
Rosalee Schrock. Melvin was passionate about harness racing in which he
was a horse trainer/driver. He worked for 20 years in security for the Toledo
School System and was a member of the Wildwood Church in Temperance,
MI. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the 1:00 pm funeral services on
Monday October 6, at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main
Street Middlebury, IN. Services will be conducted by Pastor Brett Bartlett.
Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to United
Cerebral Palsy Fund in honor of his granddaughter.

So sorry to hear that Mel has passed away. We knew him through Harness
Racing at Raceway Park and we also stabled with him in Erie Michigan.

I remember Mel well from my year at Start High School. He was tough on
some of us roaming the halls, but always fair with us. He always was a
decent guy to talk to.
