September 12, 1916 ~ January 10, 2015
Marjorie I. Swihart, 98, of Goshen, formerly of Topeka, died at 8:45 pm, on
Saturday, January 10, at Courtyard Of Goshen. She was born on September
12, 1916, in LaGrange County to Chester and Barbara (Weaver) Dunithan. On
September 12, 1936 in Elkhart County she married Merle Swihart, he died May
26, 1981. Surviving are daughter, Barbara (Berton) Smith of Topeka; son,
Noble J. "Tobe" (Vera) Swihart of Goshen; daughter-in-law, Jane (Joseph)
Swihart Farrell of Goshen; two foster sons, Larrison Castillo of NM and Elias
"Charlie" Castillo of AZ; 14 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 12 great
great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband
and a son, Thomas D. Swihart. She was a member of Emma Mennonite
Church and most recently attended King’s Fellowship. She was a
homemaker, store clerk, and had worked at area factories. Marjorie enjoyed
volunteering at Faith Mission and doing taxi work for the Amish community.
She often drove Amish ladies to Ft. Wayne for sewing activities. Visitation will
be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, January
14, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 15, also at the
funeral home. Services will be conducted by her son. Burial will be in West
Goshen Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to Faith Mission.
