August 17, 1924 -- January 14, 2013

Magdalena "Lena" Barkman, 88, of Topeka, died at 2:45 pm on Monday,
January 14, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital, LaGrange.  She was born on
August 17, 1924 in Loogootee, IN, to William and MaryAnn (Yoder) Wagler.  
On November 28, 1944 in Mark Center, OH she married Monroe Barkman, he
survives. Survivors in addition to her husband are six daughters, Mary Jane
(Wilbur) Miller of Middlebury, Martha (Dave) Schmucker of Millersburg,
Magdalena Ann (Toby T.) Troyer, Waneta (John R.) Miller, Carolyn (David
W.) Nissley and Norma Jean (Freeman) Bontrager all of Topeka; three sons,
Samuel Jay (Rose) Barkman of Wolcottville, William Henry Barkman of
Topeka, Monroe, Jr. (Rachel) Barkman of Ligonier; 34 grandchildren, 42
great grandchildren, two sisters, Mildred Delagrange of New Haven,
Catherine Delagrange of Woodburn; four brothers, Omer Wagler and Ray
Wagler both of Mark Center, OH, Simon (Martha) Wagler of Spencerville and
Dale (Doris) Wagler of Harlan. She was preceded in death by her parents, a
daughter, Alma Mae Barkman, two sons John Allen and Ray Ellis Barkman,
a grandson, Arlan Miller and a stillborn grandson; a sister, Rosie
Delagrange, brother, Wilmer Wagler and twin brothers, Wilbur and Wilbert
Wagler. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish
Church. Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Tuesday January 15, and all day
Wednesday, January 16, at the Freeman Bontrager residence, 3365 W. 550
S., Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Thursday January 17, at
the Crist M. Miller residence, 5780 S. 300 W., Topeka.  Services will be
conducted by Bishop Christy Mast and the home ministers. Burial will be in
Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.
