July 13, 1922 -- December 15, 2019

Mabel W. Smith Todd, 97, of LaGrange, formerly of Middlebury, passed
away early Sunday morning, December 15, at Miller's Merry Manor,
LaGrange, where she had lived the past year and a half. She was born
on July 13, 1922 on her family farm near Niles, MI, to Ray and Mary
(Allen) Westfall. She was married in 1941 to Russell Smith, he passed
away September 1965; she then married Ralph Todd in 1968; he passed
away in their house fire in 1979. Surviving are daughter, Regina (David)
Stevenson of Angola; son, David (Alex) Smith of Thousand Palms, CA;
six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons;
three step sons, Ted (Marnie) Todd, Andrew (Mary Kay) Todd, Thomas
(Jan) Todd; seven step grandchildren, several step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; daughter,
Marilyn Rathke; four brothers; two sisters; granddaughter and a
great-grandson. Mabel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She graduated from Edwardsburg High School in 1940. She was a
member of First United Methodist Church, Middlebury,
Home-Economics Club of Middlebury and enjoyed quilting and walking.
She owned a little restaurant in Shipshewana "The Country Inn" and
was the manager and buyer for a dress shop in Three Rivers Michigan.
Her last job was in health care personnel field in Elkhart. Visitation will
be from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Friday, December 20, at Miller-Stewart
Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Funeral services will
follow visitation at 3:00 pm on Friday also at the funeral home.  Services
will be conducted by Pastor Ron Russell. Memorials may be given to
First United Methodist Church, Middlebury or the Middlebury Food
