Lois Evelyn Pence
                               December 5, 1924 ~ July 24, 2017

Lois Evelyn Pence, 92, of Goshen, died at 6:40 pm on Monday, July 24, at
Goshen Health Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on December 5,
1924 in Mishawaka, to Curtis A. and Mildred (Peterson) Johnson. On
November 18, 1945 in Mishawaka she married Carlton Frederick Pence, he
survives. Survivors in addition to her husband are daughter, Karen (Richard
Dye) Smiley of Goshen; son, Colin (Janey Butterworth) Pence of Littleton,
CO; three grandchildren, Paige (Patrick) Judson, Gretchen Smiley, Meredith
(John) Clark; two great-grandchildren, Avery Judson and Ethan Clark. She
was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Curtis Johnson, Jr. in
1992. Lois graduated Mishawaka High School in 1942 and attended Indiana
University South Bend. She was involved in the order of Rainbow for Girls,
was a worthy advisor and grand officer. She was a charter member of
Bethany Lutheran Church in South Bend, active with the Lutheran Church
women and later St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Middlebury. Lois was a
member of the Eastern Star and the Altrusa Club of South Bend. She was on
the auxiliary and volunteered at Memorial Hospital of South Bend and
Goshen Hospital. She was on the South Bend-Mishawaka Board of Realtors
and secretary of the board of directors and on the recreation committee of
Bayshore Windmill Village Homeowners Association. She was a secretary for
Bendix Products Division in south Bend, a Portage Realty sales associate
and hosted travel groups from 1968 – 1999. Lois was very involved with
Women in Radio and Television and was producer and hostess for
Homemakers’ Time on WSBT-TV South Bend (CBS Affiliate) and radio
personality on “Timely Topics”. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 2:00 pm on
Friday July 28, followed by a 2:00 pm funeral service at St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, 708 Wayne St. Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor
Randy Schroeder. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Carl, Colin and Karen,  We are sorry for the loss of your wife/mother. We have
a lot of memories of your family through the years. Not too many of us
remember Lois on "Homemakers Time". She was a kind and caring person.  
We would be at the funeral but we both are working on Friday.  Love to all of
