John M. Bontrager
                                   September 3, 1942 -- May 19, 2014

John M. Bontrager, 71, of Topeka, died at 11:13 am on Monday, May 19, after
being hit by a wagon being pulled by runaway horses at a farm on 1125 W,
Millersburg.  He was born on September 3, 1942 in LaGrange County, to
Manas and Elizabeth (Miller) Bontrager.  On May 17, 1962 in LaGrange County
he married Esther Ellen Miller, she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife
are seven daughters, Dora (Jerry) Miller of Millersburg, Loretta (Ray) Lehman
of Topeka, Arlene (Lonnie) Miller of Millersburg, Wanda (Richard) Frey of
Topeka, LuAnn (Marlin) Frey and Liz (Danny) Frey both of Millersburg, Mary
(Glenn) Miller of Topeka; three sons, John (Doris) Bontrager Jr. and Dale
(Retha) Bontrager both of Millersburg, Lavern (Esther) Bontrager of Topeka;
62 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; four sisters, Amanda (William)
Yoder of LaGrange, Naomi Bontrager and Betty (Joe) Wingard both of
Shipshewana, Edna (Jerry) Yoder of LaGrange; five brothers, Ervin (Anna)
Bontrager and Mahlon (Edna) Bontrager both of Shipshewana, Manas (Mary)
Bontrager Jr. of Topeka, Joni (Freda) Bontrager of Shipshewana, Levi (Ruth)
Bontrager of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister,
Martha Schrock. He was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish
Church and had been ordained as a minister in 1972. Visitation will be after
2:00 pm on Tuesday May 20, and all day Wednesday, May 21, at the family
residence, 5355 S. 600 W., Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on
Thursday May 22, also at the family residence. Services will be conducted by
Bishop David H. Miller and the home ministers. Burial will be in Hawpatch
Cemetery, Topeka. Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury, is handling
