James E. Sweat
                            September 4, 1927 -- November 8, 2015

James Edward Sweat, 88, of Elkhart, formerly of Bristol, died at 1:15 am on
Sunday, November 8, at Riverside Village, where he had been a resident
the last six years. He was born on September 4, 1927 in Little Rock, AR. On
May 1, 1948 in Angola he married Lilly M. Detwiler, she survives in Elkhart.
Survivors in addition to his wife are three daughters, Donna (Walt) Grimes
of LaGrange, Julia (Gerald) DeWitt of Sturgis, MI, widow Beverly Peoples of
Dowagiac, MI; son, James E. (Karla) Sweat Jr. of Constantine, MI; seven
grandchildren, eleven great grancdhildren, six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Alice (Duke) Snyder,
granddaughter, Jenny Fireline, son-in-law, Jim Peoples,  four brothers,
Russell, Robert, William and Warren Snyder, five sisters, Bethel Drake, Vera
Morgan, Doris Snyder, Marie Sevrey, and Jean Nettrouer. He was a member
of the Bristol American Legion. He was in the Air Force/Army and served in
World War II as a mail clerk. He loved to dance, go fishing and bowling, and
50's and 60's music. He delivered coal, worked at Kesco, building windows,
and retired from Bristol Pipe. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on
Tuesday, November 10 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main
Street, Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday,
November 11, also at the funeral home, with military honors. Services will
be conducted by Pastor Victoria Oldenburg. Burial will be in Grace Lawn
Cemetery, Middlebury at a later date. Memorials may be given to Disabled
American Veterans.
