September 30, 1914 -- August 30, 2013

Harriett Elizabeth Yoder, 98, Middlebury, passed away at home at 2:23 pm
on Friday, August 30 after suffering a stroke on the morning of August
18th. She was born in Middlebury on September 30, 1914, the daughter of
Harold and Bertha (Gentzler) Hoover. She worked at the First State Bank
her entire working career. Harriett was a life-long member of the United
Methodist Church in Middlebury, where she was active in various ladies'
circles, the church choir, and served as the junior Sunday school
superintendent. She loved life, cooking, entertaining, traveling, reading,
flowers and she loved people. She was active and stayed in her home
until her recent stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlon
Jay Yoder, who was killed in battle on April 16, 1945 in Northern Italy, and
by her brother, Charles William Hoover. She is survived by her son,
Charles, of Middlebury, with whom she lived. Friends may call from 5:00 -
8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 3, at the First United Methodist Church
in Middlebury. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday,
September 4, also at the church. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery,
Middlebury. Memorial donations may be made to the Middlebury United
Methodist Church.
