the best bus driver ever, the words of advice he gave were priceless. He made a

May 19, 1954 -- January 30, 2014
Gilbert Duane Stephenson, 59, of Shipshewana, died at 2:16
pm on Thursday, January 30 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital
after a battle with cancer. He was born on May 19, 1954 in
Benzonia, MI, to Duane and Lorraine Stephenson. On
October 28, 2000 in LaGrange County he married Betty Jane
(Caley) Guthrie, she survives. Survivors in addition to his
wife are a daughter, Elisha Stephenson of Lagrange; four
sons, Randy Stephenson of White Pigeon, MI, Gilbert
DeWayne Stephenson of Shipshewana, Jeremy Lengacher
of Butler, Josh (Amber) Lengacher of Geneva; step son,
Michael (Autumn) Guthrie of Bristol; 11 grandchildren, one
great grandson, five step grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry
(Marilyn) Stephenson of Ontario, Canada, Phil (Gail)
Stephenson of Benzonia, MI. He was preceded in death by
his parents, sister, Susan Putney and four grandchildren.
Gilbert was a diesel mechanic and had been a truck driver for
the RV industry. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, all kinds of
racing including Nascar and had built racecars for his sons.
He was a loving husband and father. Visitation will be from
1:00 - 4:00 pm on Wednesday February 5, at Miller-Stewart
Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury.
Memorials may be given to Miller-Stewart Funeral Home to
assist with expenses.

I'll never forget my grandpa Gilbert and
everything he has taught me about the outdoors. it was so
fun when we could go out camping in the woods, it was the
best time ever. may he rest in peace.

Grandpa Gilbert was a very loving grandfather
and will be dearly missed. not just by me but by all of his
grandchildren, family, and friends. i love him dearly. may he

Wow....Can't believe it's been almost 3 years that you've been gone Grandpa. I miss you more than anything. I love you. I miss watching you work.
