February 13, 1944 - November 4, 2013
(Larry) Gene Ober, 69, Middlebury, passed away November 4, 2013.
He was born February 13, 1944 in Garret to Andrew Forest and May
Caroline (Warstler) Ober. The are both deceased. He is
survived by his son Mitch (wife Asna), an engineer, lives in Northville,
MI; daughter Megan, a nurse, lives in Sacramento, CA; brothers David
Ober, lives in Indianapolis and Kent (wife Sue) Ober lives in
Gene was a very good athlete. He played football and baseball in high
school. He was good enough in baseball that major league scouts
came to watch him play. He was named the outstanding football
lineman at Goshen High School in his senior year. After high school,
he played fast pitch softball for many years, mostly with Keene
Machine of Middlebury, once winning the state batting title. He also
was a good bowler
for many years.
He was an excellent mason all of his life. He worked on several
different types of projects throughout northern Indiana, including his
own home. He worked for (Max) Reynolds Masonry for many years
until Max passed away. He was very active in the Middlebury
American Legion, Post 210. Some of his favorite events were
participating in the parades and maintaining the veterans flags within
Grace Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 – 6 PM on Saturday, November 9,
followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM Saturday evening, all at Miller-
Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury, 1003 S. Main Street, Middlebury.
Services will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 210 of
Middlebury. Burial will take place at Grace Lawn Cemetery,
Middlebury. Memorials may be made to the Elkhart County Treasurer
for the War Memorial Fund.

To all of Gene’s family, I am sending my deepest sympathy for your
loss. Gene was a sincere neighbor and friend to my husband Ronald
Avery and myself. We lived in apartment 6. Gene will always be
thought of as a wonderful man. He joined me to honor Ronald in his
passing in 2010. Loving thoughts and prayers.

Dave, I send my condolences to you and your family at this time of
loss and sadness. Gene has become a “member of the family”
recently as we have prayed for him at Lifepointe Church.
