Forrest W. Smith

                                    August 6, 1928 -- December 24, 2019

Forrest W. Smith, 91, of Middlebury, died at 8:15 pm on Thursday, December 24, at
Elkhart General Hospital, he had been in declining health the past four months after
suffering a stroke on August 5.  He was born on August 6, 1928 in Nappanee to Saml
and Sarah (Mitschelen-Pippenger) Smith.  On March 15, 1959 in Goshen he married
Sylvia Yoder, she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Roland Smith
of Oxford, OH; three daughters, Marleta Smith Scott of Bright, IN, Natalie Smith of
Cincinnati, OH, Kimberly (Francisco) Rivera of Macedonia, OH; two grandchildren,
Sarah (Justin) Feine and Andrew Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents;
three half-sisters and 10 half-brothers. Forrest grew up working on his family’s farm
in Bronson, MI and later worked as a machinist for most of his life. He served four
years in the US Air Force during the Korean War where he was assigned as a
Weapons Mechanic. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking and was a talented
woodcarver. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday December 27, at Miller-
Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Funeral services will be
at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 28, also at the funeral home. Services will be
conducted by Pastor Michael Swiger. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery,
Middlebury. Memorials may be given to True Freedom Ministries.
