Estella "Jean" Knowles
Estella “Jean” Knowles, 73, of Shipshewana, died at 11:30 am, on Tuesday,
December 17 at Millers Merry Manor, LaGrange, after a long battle with
cancer. She was born on November 29, 1940, in Bremerton, WA, to Ernest
and Hazel (Rider) West. On June 20, 1959, she married Harold "Jim" Knowles,
he died Feb. 11, 2008. Surviving are two sons - Tom Knowles and Joe (Sherri)
Knowles both of Shipshewana; four grandchildren; three sisters - Kathleen
"Star" Hedrick of Clark Fork, ID, Karen (Herbert) Sellman of Anchorage, AK,
and Sheila (Dale) Cox of Payette, ID; brother - Gilbert (Olga) West of Frieste,
Italy; and an aunt Roberta Markley of Shipshewana. She was preceded in
death by her husband, parents, a brother, Allen Lafleur, and a sister, Harriet
Dale. She was a homemaker and worked for 15 years at Mastercraft in
Shipshewana and retired in 2002. She also worked at Double Eagle in
Shipshewana. She was a member of Lima United Methodist Church. She
enjoyed bowling, knitting, and crocheting as well as a member of the Red Hat
Society and was the President of the UMW of Lima United Methodist Church.  
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday December 19 at Miller-
Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Funeral services
will be at 10:00 am on Friday December 20, also at Miller-Stewart Funeral
Home. Services will be conducted by Denise Heller. Burial will be in Keightley
Cemetery, Shipshewana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the
LaGrange County Cancer Society.

To Joe and Tom- So sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. Haven’t seen
you guys in years. Our son Brian lets us know what’s going on. We are in
Florida for the winter. Have fond memories of you and your family though.
