Ervin M. Bontrager
Ervin M. Bontrager, 90, of Shipshewana, passed away at 3:05 pm on
Wednesday, February 28, at his residence, from natural causes. He was born
on March 3, 1927, in Shipshewana, to Manas and Elizabeth (Miller) Bontrager.
On October 27, 1949, in LaGrange County, he married Anna Wingard, she
survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are Amanda (Joe) Skaggs of
LaGrange, Wilma (Atlee) Chupp, Betty (Lyle) Helmuth, and Doris (Jacob)
Miller all of Shipshewana; 10 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, five
great-great grandchildren; four brothers, Mahlon Bontrager of Shipshewana,
Manas Jr. (Mary) Bontrager of Topeka, Levi (Ruth) Bontrager of Goshen, Joni
(Freda) Bontrager of Shipshewana; four sisters, Mandy Yoder of LaGrange,
Neomah Bontrager of Shipshewana, Betty (Joe Jr.) Wingard of Shipshewana,
Edna (Jerry Jr.) Yoder of LaGrange; sister-in-law, Esther (John) Bontrager of
Topeka; many nieces and nephews and lots of friends. He was preceded in
death by his parents; great-grandson, Matthew Jon Chupp; brother, John
Bontrager; sister, Martha (Wilbur) Schrock; brother-in-law, William Yoder;
three sisters-in-law, Lydia Mae Bontrager, Edna Bontrager, and Barbara
Bontrager. He was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church,
from which he was a retired deacon. Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on
Thursday, March 1 and all day Friday, March 2, at the family residence, 10085
W. 250 North, Shipshewana. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Saturday,
March 3, at the Jacob Miller residence, 2720 N. 1000 West, Shipshewana.
Services will be conducted by Bishop Glen Miller and the home ministers.
Burial will be in Naylor Cemetery, Shipshewana.
