June 23, 1940 ~ July 31, 2017

Elsie Marie Schowalter, 77, of Goshen, died at 6:30 pm on Monday, July 31,
at Goshen Health Hospital, following recent surgeries. She was born on
June 23, 1940 in Gap, PA, to Peter and Amanda (Stoltzfus) Stauffer.  On
December 2, 1972 in Sturgis, MI she married Michael Schowalter; he
survives. Survivors in addition to her husband are five sisters, Mary
Nissley of Harrisonburg, VA, Verna Swartzentruber and Anna Belle Stauffer
both of Goshen, Ruth Stoll of Hillsdale, MI, Marian Carpenter of Colon, MI;
brother, Christian (Leah) Stauffer of Sturgis, MI; sister-in-law Clara Stauffer
of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Melvin
Stauffer. Elsie was an LPN and had provided private nursing care, driven a
flower delivery van and most recently provided cooking and cleaning care
for the elderly. She was a member of Maple City Chapel, enjoyed the
outdoors, flowers, plants, walking, biking, family gatherings and doing
crafts. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, August 4,
at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. There
will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on
Saturday, August 5, at Maple City Chapel, Goshen. Services will be
conducted by Pastor Gary Miller. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery,
Middlebury. Memorials may be given to the Pit Road Auto Ministry of Maple
City Chapel.
