Donald Wayne Shoup
                                    January 23, 1930 -- January 31, 2013

Donald Wayne Shoup, 83, of Middlebury, died at 10:00 am on Thursday, January
31, at his residence, after a brief illness. He was born on January 23, 1930 in Fort
Wayne, to Vernon and Mary (Teeters) Shoup. On October 8, 1950 in Wakarusa he
married Shirley Yoder; she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are three
sons, James (Sally) Shoup of Pendleton, Michael Shoup of Sterling, VA, Bruce
(Beth Anne) Shoup of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew,
Jennifer, Tyler, Austin and Curtis and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his parents, grandchildren, Will Shoup, Andrew Shoup, Katherine Shoup
and granddaughter-in-law, Jenn Shoup. Don was a lifelong resident of Middlebury
with the exception of four years spent earning a degree in Economics at
Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, MI. He graduated from Middlebury High School in
1948 where he was class Salutatorian and played basketball, baseball and ran
track. After graduating from college, Don returned to Middlebury to work in the
family business, Pioneer Manufacturing Co., and later founded Shoup Tax and
Accounting Service. He was a member of the Middlebury School Board during the
1960’s where he served as President. Don was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed
watching his children and grandchildren participate in many different sports. He
was a lifelong Cubs fan. In retirement, he and Shirley spent time in both North
Carolina and Arizona. He also loved traveling and had been in all 50 states and
also travelled internationally. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church of Middlebury, where he served on the Church Council and most recently,
has been attending Elkhart Faith United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1:
00 - 6:00 pm on Sunday February 3, Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main
Street Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday February 4, also
at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Pastor John
Hogsett of Elkhart Faith United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Grace Lawn
Cemetery, Middlebury. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American
Cancer Society or the charity of the Donor’s choice.

My condolences to the Shoup family. I have many fine memories of  my time spent
with Don at Pioneer Boat, going to the Cub games, picture day for Pioneer boat
catalog at Lake Wawasea, Indiana State Fair corn bins. The Army, college and work
(Seattle) put an end to our working and younger days. He will be forever in my fond
memories, along with dad Vernon and Victor.
