Carlton Pence
                         December 3, 1920 -- December 17, 2018

Carlton F. Pence, 98, of Goshen, died peacefully at 4:40 am on
Monday, December 17 at the Residence at Waterford Crossing. He
was born on December 3, 1920 in Middlebury, to Arthur and Maude
(Kalb) Pence. On November 18, 1945, in Mishawaka, he married Lois
Johnson; she died July 24, 2017. Survivors are daughter, Karen
(Richard Dye) Smiley of Goshen; son, Colin (Janey Buttersworth)
Pence of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Paige (Patrick) Judson,
Gretchen (Gaurav) Bagga, Meredith (John) Clark, Kelle (Omar)
Guillen; three great-grandchildren, Avery Judson, Ethan Clark, Olivia
Clark. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Ruby
Ann Miller. He graduated from Shipshewana High School in 1938 and
Purdue University in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical
Engineering. He received his Master of Business Administration from
Michigan State University in 1965. He was employed at Bendix
Energy Controls Division of the Bendix Corporation in South Bend as
Project Engineer in the Aircraft Fuel Systems Division. He retired in
1983 from Bendix as the Senior Contracts Administrator. He was
involved with the Toastmasters Club, President of Camp Millhouse
Board of Control, President of the Bendix Management Club, Kiwanis
Sunrisers Club of Goshen, Spring Brooke Homeowners Association
and Member Clubhouse Committee, and served as a Notre Dame
Stadium usher. He was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran
Church in South Bend and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church
in Middlebury. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 2:00 pm followed by a
2:00 pm funeral service on Friday, December 21 at St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, 708 Wayne St., Middlebury. Services will be conducted by
Pastor Randy Schroeder. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery,
Middlebury. Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
