Barbara Kay Smith
                                 March 7, 1938 -- September 10, 2020

Barbara Kay Smith, 82, of Topeka, passed away at 8:15 am on Thursday,
September 10, at her residence. She was born on March 7, 1938 in Goshen
to Merle and Marjorie I. (Dunithan) Swihart.  On December 21, 1956 in San
Diego, CA she married Berton E. Smith, he survives. Survivors in addition
to her husband are two daughters, Bridget (Ross) Reed of Topeka, Becky
(David) St. John of Pioneer, OH; four sons, Bret (Vickie) Smith of Howe,
Jonathan (Tami) Smith of Topeka, Judah (Teresa) Smith of White Bluff, TN,
Jesse (Jodi) Smith of Chehalis, WA; 21 grandchildren, 31 great
grandchildren; brother, Noble J. "Tobe" (Vera) Swihart of Goshen;
sister-in-law, Jane (Joseph) Swihart Farrell of Goshen; two foster brothers,
Larrison Castillo of NM, Elias "Charlie" Castillo of AZ. She was preceded in
death by her parents; and a brother, Thomas D. Swihart. Barbara was a
homemaker and had worked as a librarian at the Honeyville School. She
had also worked for Shadow Interiors, StarCraft in Emma and as a bank
teller at different local banks. In her retirement she did Amish taxi work and
she attended Crossroads Baptist Church, Shipshewana. Visitation will be
from 2:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday September 14, at Miller-Stewart Funeral
Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10:00
am on Tuesday, September 15, also at the funeral home. Services will be
conducted by Pastor Mark Suever. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery, Topeka.
Memorials may be given to International Fellowship Haven or Crossroads
Baptist Church Missions.
